Gianni is a retiree who has become invisible to most everyone around him. Some "cooking" moments were so inspiring that after watching the movie I ran to get groceries to cook some Italian dishes. This is in homage to the Italian Neo-Realism movement of the 50's and 60's.

So when the head of the condominium offers to forgive the expenses in return for his caring for the condo head's mother for 2 days (over Ferragosto), he agrees. It was so funny in a subdued way.
