the changes the screenwriters made turned this mess into a much more interesting and clever story. Staff very helpful and efficient, never far away if needed, food ofcourse great and will be returning when we’re next up Date of visit: August 2020 The law was shown to be easily manipulated by a man who becomes our main characters boss.

Start by marking “The Devil's Advocate” as Want to Read: At that time, I found the writing of Morris West engaging, and the story of the Devil’s Advocate in the Beatification process intriguing (I was Presbyterian). One less just only for first half. Defending a female teacher that has been accused of molesting a student. The faith issues the book address give pause. To begin with i need to say this "THE ONLY VATICAN RELATED FICTION I REED BEFORE WAS DAN BROWN'S ANGELS & DEMONS" even though devils advocate predates the former, but to say this book was a good one you know just another book with actually something to say........To begin with i need to say this "THE ONLY VATICAN RELATED FICTION I REED BEFORE WAS DAN BROWN'S ANGELS & DEMONS" even though devils advocate predates the former, but to say this book was a good one you know just another book with actually something to say........This book was thought provoking. An all-around bad time.1990, NYC law firm, where money and success can get you in a hell of a lot of trouble.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Compared to the movie, it actually makes an excellent study in mediocre writing, and how it can be improved.Written by someone with a low IQ for someone with a low IQ- apparently Satan is the only being extraordinary enough to teach his associates that the best legal victories are often won out of court- really?!! I highly recommend it. Truly a wonderful, fun read. This book blew the world of reading open for me. 'Nuff said. Andrews novels (and the books he writes under her name are just god-awful) but I figured that if someone wanted to make a movie from this book, then the book had to be good... right? It was a bestseller when it came out around 60 years ago and I think it was still very accessible with its themes for today’s reader. Makes it clear that for particular constituencies their alliances and differences keep shifting in subtle ways that matter, even if overall rather similar.A very satisfying and very dated novel. But yes the book is an absolute best when it comes to story telling and gripping the reader. 100% of the credit for the brilliant film goes to Jonathan Lemkin, Tony Gilroy, and Al Pacino. Going to watch the film now and see how they compare.Excellent book written so beautifully.

Is the boss the actually devil ? The frank "born this way" treatment of Mr. Black's homosexuality surprised me and struck me as a nuanced and highly progressive characterization for its era - especially for a book focused so explicitly on matters of faith. In World War II he worked as a code-breaker, and for a time he was private secretary to former prime minister Billy Hughes. Perhaps satisfying because so dated. Everything was so ham fisted and obvious it made reading this thing feel like I was getting punk'd. But I loved Neiderman's writing style. I first read this book as a youth of 13. However, the incidents and anecdotes he shared in his book, Devil’s Advocate are an epitome of not only courage and determination but take the readers towards some kind of darkness revealing stunning facts about politicians, lawyers, film stars and big influential people. I found it to be a beautifully crafted exploration of the meaning of faith, mercy, holiness and human frailty. Morris West’s writing is so dense and enjoyable and I found myself going back and re-reading passages over and over again. Very very well. With him, the reader will find people in their simplicity and goodness, foolishness and wisdom.

But that is really only the backdrop to the totality of the story, for the real narrative deals with the world weary and cynical English devil's advocate, Fr.

It's a fun and easy read, and I really enjoyed the book, but somehow the movie was better - maybe because of the cast.

The story kept me reading.Three and a half stars, I think. We know more about the carpets in Milton's offiThe movie was better, and not just because of Pacino. Everything was so ham fisted and obvious it made reading this thing feel like I was getting punk'd. Some good dialogue and characterisation in thVery dated novel with West's Catholic sensibilities to the fore; in this instance a Vatican official investigating a case for sainthood discovers the prospective saint had fathered a male child by a local woman. Throw in the Second World War in Italy as the back drop, and it is a perfect storm.
