Gears 5 – Campaign Review. Overall gameplay feels good, however, with cover-based games, I often find myself diving or rolling at inopportune times resulting in my immediate death. I tried to take it all in. Gears, as a franchise, suddenly feels balanced in a way that it hasn’t in the past. Not only was it an Xbox exclusive, narrative based, third-person shooter game, but it was also one that would finally put a female Gears character front and centre. While the storyline itself did seem to fall short in the way of making you connect with the characters, I guess terribly bad one-liners mixed in with the blood, guts, and gore, made up for that.I went to the store to get more fire, to start the war.

Blowing things apart and watching body parts spray from here to kingdom come almost made me climax, twice.

With different difficulty levels to choose from, and the option to not only play as the lead characters, but also as Jack, the hovering drone that assists the team, all gamers are able to enjoy . I will not leave until I’ve sucked the marrow out of this place. As Kait you must journey across the biggest, most beautiful Gears world to uncover the origins of the Locust, and fight with your squad to protect what’s left. The boss fights were very entertaining, extremely challenging and fun. That’s the nucleus of I love this rhythm — riding and talking, catching things in the distance, setting sail for question marks on my map.

Gears 5 has the longest and most ambitious campaign that Gears of War has ever done and, for the most part, that ambition pays off. This world has been torn apart by fighting, and everyone is understandably weary of those whose job it is to pull the trigger.
But the end of Act I changes everything, justifying the hard turn that the campaign takes in Act II and beyond. It also establishes the template for the best of I’m Kait now, on a diplomatic mission with my buddy Del Walker. I’m not in control, and — if you’ll excuse the pun — I’m barely even a cog in the machine by the time the story moves into Act II. Of course, the Lancer is the number 1 and the most iconic gun in I was pleasantly surprised when in chapter 2 the game world opened and provided an opportunity for the player to explore a more open-world environment, involving side quests and hidden treasures to discover. I am not in a village in which I am welcome, but the Swarm are likely on their way.

The dialogue was especially well-written, incorporating humour and familiarity between characters to seal in the notion of the bond these characters share, whilst also offering an insight into the evident strained relationships that are present as well. Gears 5.

And sometimes it’s a bit of both, like when I discover a credible stealth sequence and botch it, and the cerebral calm transforms into a rumbling firefight. From Dom’s search for his wife Maria in the first two games to the breaking of a bond in Gears of War 3 to the passing of the torch to a new generation of Gears the last time out, this series matters because its characters make you care. Gears 5 has the longest and most ambitious campaign that Gears of War has ever done and, for the most part, that ambition pays off. Obviously, by building one side or the other on Jack’s tree you can seriously change the outcome of any battle. As expected, the game is littered with boss fights and has ample weaponry to bring them to a gory, bloody end, but still, most weapons felt below par for me.
Well, I can’t say it was the best game I have ever played, I am not sure it is even the best game in the series.

The more I learn, the more I think I know about where this is going, and there’s nothing to do but half-dread getting there. These shifts in tone and pacing shouldn’t work, and yet they do. Some of it is designed for sipping, mulling, and savoring, like the hours I spent slowly and deliberately exploring large, open-world areas, discovering secrets and learning about the Gears of War universe along the way. Gears of War may have initially thrived because it refined and helped revive the third-person cover shooter, but it has survived for a much less obvious reason: it has heart. Gears 5 has a great campaign I'm happy to root for.
