I found this movie so funny, especially 'Mary Steenburgen' and her husband 'Frank Colllison' as the innkeepers! very boring.A couple go off to get there marriage back on track finding Steve Carrell playing it straight as the marriage councellor.All pretty dull,but Carrell just keeps you interested.Not Tommy Lee Jones or Meryl Streeps finest hour and a half.

Not a sequel to 1998's Hope Floats, Hope Springs is a romantic comedy based on the 2001 novel New Cardiff, the first new book in over 20 years by Charles Webb, author of The Graduate. Not much of a story line - amazed that Colin Firth appeared in something so mediocre. It was certainly an eye-opener for me and I would highly recommend this film. I regret renting this movie. Heather Graham is miscast and poor old Colin Firth looks very uncomfortable throughout the film, especially when he's with la Graham. And of course it is a joy to see Meryl Streep - she just makes me smile in this! Hope Springs does address a subject that isn't talked about much in an endearing way, it just felt too awkward and clichéd for my own personal taste. Considering the cast, it should be so much better I enjoyed this movie but the chemistry between Colin Firth and Heather Graham seemed strained.

In fact, it's rather rare to witness a film that explores mature relationships. However, the shots of the celebrated autumnal colours of the US East coast (New England) are quite a sight. A great cast and unusual script/story make this a joy to watch. Heather Graham's character nauseated me and Colin Firth's character was just embarrassingly stupid and dull. I understand it's a taboo subject for most people, but to convey its awkwardness constantly throughout the entire runtime felt slightly immature. It's one of those movies you can watch again and again! The movie is touching and funny, it's a movie for women and men.
