Determined to find her real mother, she begs to be taken to Sri Lanka, where her mother works with a militant group of activists. The family finally leaves the place, and Amudha, apologizes to Indira and asks all of them to return to India. A little girl's search for her biological mother who had abandoned her as a new born baby is brought out poignantly in 'Kannathil Muthamittal'. Amudha gives Shyama a photo album and asks Shyama a series of questions, some which Shyama is unable to answer. Indira gets shot in her arm in the process.
