As most people should know, this was L&H's very first talkie, with a clever title to go along with it.
Big-time (so they think) vaudeville stars Stanley and Oliver take the train to Pottsville, their next booking. Most fans are also aware that nine years later it was remade as the final third or so of their classic feature 'Blockheads.'
However, her dress catches on fire, and she's left standing in only undergarments and wrapped in the tablecloth when they see her husband (Edgar Kennedy) returning home.
Unfortunately she accidentally burns her dress and as soon as she has taken it off both her husband, cop Edgar Kennedy, and Ollie's wife suddenly return. Hardy brings Laurel home for a home cooked meal by his wife (Mae Busch), who storms out of the apartment at this imposition. Ollie tells her to tell him the truth, but changes his mind when he sees his own wife coming back. He takes the trunk over to his own apartment, wanting to have a little fun that he thinks his wife will never find out about. Plans for a nice Sunday picnic seemed doomed even before Stanley and Oliver and their families get into the car. Stan and Ollie try to hide their pet dog Laughing Gravy from their exasperated, mean tempered landlord, who has a "No Pets" policy.
Comedy
Oliver's plans to marry his hefty sweetheart go awry when the girl's father gets a load of her intended groom.
Certificate: Passed 'Unaccustomed as We Are' looks good visually, is full of energy and the direction gets the best out of the stars, is at ease with the material and doesn't let it … Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon.
The Hardys, hoping to avoid having the Laurels drop in and spoil their quiet evening, pretend not to be home when the couple inevitably call. Mrs. Kennedy (the lovely Thelma Todd) from nextdoor hears the commotion and comes over to see what's going on, and volunteers to make the dinner for them.
The entire plot eventually ends up as the last reel of Laurel & Hardy's 1938 feature "Blockheads." Rather flat without dialogue, the accompanying silent version is worth a look only for historic purposes.

"Unaccustomed As We Are" is a 20-minute black-and-white short film from almost 90 years ago starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy and this little movie was made right during the transition from silent film to sound film and I must say they did a good job with that here.
