Newman seems subdued and bored to me, he looks the part still of course, the wardrobe for his character is great, the perfect lounge lizard pool shark type. I'll say this until the day I die. To be brutally honest I've never seen a film with such a huge amount of sulking, pouting and tantrums as in this film haha.
The Color Of Money -The 1986 Drama movie featuring Paul Newman and Tom Cruise at the award winning 80s Movies Rewind.
Personally I don't think there is much here that isn't overly original, the plot is virtually 'The Karate Kid' but with pool or 9-ball. Great to see this film finally getting a blu ray release. At the end of The Hustler, Felson was banned for life from playing the game professionally. It is formulaic in its approach to a sports film and it captures the relationship between a teacher and a protege with a finesse which is the result of a great director and a great cast.Stunning movie - blu-ray technical quality less stunningReviewed in the United Kingdom on December 31, 2013 Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. |
It is a surprise, and a disappointment. Drama,
Sidney Poitier’s 7 Most Memorable Performances A fine companion piece to Robert Rossen's The Hustler that also stands confidently on its own.
Marvel Co-Stars and Hollywood Pay Tribute to Chadwick Boseman To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Being a Scorsese film it looks sweet as a nut, everything looks damn realistic from the bitterly cold looking locations to the smoky seedy all male pool halls. The Color of Money pursues the persistence of this racial wealth gap by focusing on the generators of wealth in the black community: black banks. Despite that the film stretches for that epic Oscar level but really falls short, visually its great but Cruise lets it down for me as does the basic plot. Yet another minor masterpiece from wunderkind Scorsese, however this movie is somewhat dated. They may, however, still enjoy the machismo involved in playing high-stakes pool.
A pool shark's greed gets him into trouble when he loses start to outnumber his wins. "The Color of Money" is not a sequel, exactly, but it didn't start with someone's fresh inspiration. Highly recommended. He tells Cruise to get lost, and vows to make an honest comeback. Everything, including a splendid cast, works like a clockwork mechanism in which Scorsese faces youth with experience.

The plot was confused without being complicated and the film made the catastrophic mistake of making the hero thoroughly unsympathetic. Tend to forget this was a sequel to the film 'The Hustler', probably because it feels like a Cruise vehicle for his young obnoxious over acting and toothy grin. With regards to the plot, as a great fan of sports movies which delve into the profound psychology of the sportsman, I found it incredible. August 1, 2008 Having said that, I think his flashy, come-back pool player in "Color" is almost as good--handsome, sexy, full of energy and quite capable of dealing with his two, green proteges amusingly portrayed by Tom Cruise and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
