Das Haus am Meer - Il Mare ist ein Science Fiction-Film aus dem Jahr 2000 von Hyun-seung Lee mit Jung-Jae Lee, Ji-hyun Jun und Mu-saeng Kim. Von diesem Film kam 2006 ein Remake mit dem Titel "Das Haus am See" ins Kino, dort spielten Keanu Reeves und Sandra Bullock die Hauptrollen. Der junge Ingenieur Sung-hyun Han, der ins "Il Mare" einzieht, liest den Brief und schreibt zurück - datiert mit Dezember 1997. This movie was a complete drag. In it she asks him/her to forward any mail of hers to her new address in the city. They were very hard to follow - the person responsible obviously didn't speak English very well. The quality is not that great. I am so glad I watched it.
Much of the film is pervaded by a quiet, almost silent, sadness. Her predictions about the past are amazingly accurate.
I recently read an article about how South Koreans were griping about the subtitle translations for the Avengers Infinity War movie, so I guess it goes both ways. Directed by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi. The only flaws are with the overall quality of the DVD, which visually is all right, but the subtitles are a little iffy (but comprehensible) in certain spots.
Being Korean American (speak, read & write) I can say the translation was mostly on (though there's alot of complaints re translations in the reviews?) The letter is from a young woman in the year 1999, two years from the present. A man and a woman both live in a lake house two years apart in time, but are able to communicate through a mysterious mailbox. But the movie is so fantastic that it is well worth it. So well acted. Comparing the two, this original version is way better than the remake. Video availability outside of United States varies. It is 1997 and Sung-hyun, the first owner of "Il Mare" is moving in and finds in his mailbox the Christmas card from Eun-joo. Everyone should watch this movie.

This is a good film. Very confusing to follow, translation was horrible, actors and story was not captivating. I didn't feel a strong sense of emotional pull in the relationship between the two main characters. Showing that connection is hard, but I think the movie pulls it off well. I felt nothing while watching this movie and it felt dreadful to finish.
The language spoken is dubbed either Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese with English subtitle.
